On March 11, 2009, writer Don Feder gave a speech on hate crimes legislation. However, the leftist students at UMass disrupted the event, eventually bring it to an abrupt end. Through intimidation, they denied his 1st amendment rights of free speech. A similar event occured at Smith College in 2008 when Ryan Sorba tried to speak.

This is a very disturbing trend. The university setting was and is supposed to be a place when all sides of any issue can be discussed in a civil manner. However, it is clear that at some colleges. those who don't like an opinion do not tolerate an opposing viewpoint. Ironic that the same people who have called for love and tolerance have become the most intolerant and the purveyors of hate.
