Hello,

First, thank you for all you do for the city. You have a difficult job and I know you are doing what you think is best.

I have not had a chance to watch your meeting yet but I heard there was talk of the city trying to implement mask mandates. It’s my understanding that any mandate can only be done under a state of emergency. The MA state of emergency was lifted on June 15, 2021. Please explain to me what gives you the authority to set a mandate.

Currently cases seem to be growing in the schools. As you know our schools already have mask mandates. This would indicate that masks are not working. I have not missed one day of work since Covid started. No one in my office wears a mask and there have been no cases that have come from my work place. We are not at a point where we can say better safe than sorry. That would assume there are no draw backs to wearing masks. The effectiveness in best cases is 1-10% if masks are worn correctly.  I actually challenge the Health Dept to do a random series of test on masks in schools. Are you confident that there would be no viruses or bacteria in a students mask at the end of the day. Is prolonged exposure to these filthy masks good for public health?

I support people that want to wear masks indoors or outdoors. I strongly oppose forcing citizens in a free country to wear a mask. Many mask manufacturers print right on their boxes that masks will not prevent virus transmission. A mask mandate would be a huge over reaction with little or no benefit.

The survivability of Covid is around 99% depending on age and health. I would be far more interested in hearing about treatments like HCQ or Ivermectin to treat people. This would reduce suffering and will work for vaccinated and unvaccinated. It is a shame that so many are bullied into ignoring these treatments. They have been safe treatments for decades. I will back you 1000% on that.

I ask the Board of Health to please show me the irrefutable, peer-reviewed, scientific research published in a reputable medical journal that conclusively shows that “masking healthy or asymptomatic individuals prevents the spread of illness.”

I will not accept the “CDC Guidelines” as an answer because the CDC guidelines have NO references to studies regarding masks.
The Health Board signed these orders. THEY have to PROVIDE SCIENTIFIC references for these orders. They cannot pass the buck to the CDC.
I want to know how they can MANDATE residents to put themselves at risk of getting hypoxia, a condition that occurs when oxygen levels drop below 19.5%, the level established by OSHA, lower than which can cause a variety of symptoms that affect people’s health, safety, and lives? Why is the Westfield Board of Health now considering mandating mask wearing?

The infection rate may be up, but there have been no deaths reported. As cases rise, our community moves closer to “herd immunity.” If we follow the science, most flu and viruses produce new strains, with each new strain or variant becoming weaker than the original. This is nothing new.

Where does the law give a Board of Health the authority to mandate wearing masks, especially with school children?

First of all, a “state of emergency” no longer exists in Massachusetts.

The US Senate voted on December 8 to block Biden’s OSHA vaccine mandate for large employers. This vote followed shortly after the 6th circuit court overruled the same mandate.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ended a school mask mandate by ruling that the Acting Secretary of Health did not have the authority to require school children to wear masks, and that only parents and local officials have the power to make health and safety decisions in our schools.

That power comes with obligations to review the facts and act in the best interest of our communities.

What peer-reviewed scientific evidence is the Board of Health citing that paper or cloth masks prevent transmission of Covid 19?

Why is the Board of Health considering mandating people wear masks in public, when the average age of death from Covid 19 is 80 years old in people with pre-existing health conditions, at the same time the average age of death in the United States is 80 years old.

Local leaders should provide the public with evidence that it is healthy for school children to wear masks all day long?

Our focus should be on informing the public on how to boost their immune systems, with vitamin D, zinc and other things, and treating Covid 19 and reducing the severity of symptoms and stress the public is experiencing, not prolonging the outbreak by constantly moving the goal posts that are being dictated by big pharmaceutical companies.

Americans pay the highest prices for drugs and have the worst health outcomes among the top 75 nations. The over prescription of opiates, which doctors were told by the pharmaceutical industry were not addictive, has now led to 50,000 Americans dying annually, making pharmaceuticals the third largest killer of Americans. 

Good health does not come in a pill, but from building a strong immune system.  It is not healthy for anyone to wear a mask all day long, especially for school age children or those with respiratory conditions.

Students and our children have had their lives and education turned upside down. Parents and local school boards should make decisions about our children’s education, health and safety.

If our local leaders cannot provide adequate evidence and an explanation for imposing a mask mandate, then the decision to implement one should be postponed until such evidence is presented.
