Brookline Trans Track Runner Who Helped Team Win State Title Did Not Compete At States This YearFebruary 16, 2024 Brookline High School has a transgender athlete on its girls’ track team, but the athlete did not compete at the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association state championship meet on Thursday for unknown reasons. Senior Chloe Barnes, a male who helped Brookline win an MIAA Division 1 state championship last year with a fourth-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles, did not participate in the Division 1 meet Thursday, February 15. Barnes had a time good enough to qualify for the state championship meet. Runners needed to complete the 55-meter hurdles in 9.72 seconds or less to qualify for Division 1 states. Barnes outperformed that mark at every meet this season and ran it in 8.73 seconds at the Bay State Conference championship meet on February 7 — good for a third-place finish. Brookline High athletic director Kyle Williams could not be reached for comment on Thursday.
